Senate Gives up Pension funds probe, Leaves Maina to God

The Senate committee probing the management of pension funds, the same committee that ordered the arrest of Maina said they will leave him to God. The committee adjourned its sitting until further notice.

According to the Chairman of the committee, Senator Aloysius Etok, the adjournment came following the continuous absence of the Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina.

It was gathered that Maina’s supporter blocked the entrance of the National Assembly in large numbers.

Some supporters carried placards that read, ‘Leave Maina alone’, ‘Maina has saved pensioners’, ‘Maina has done what nobody could before him’, and ‘Maina is a good man’.

Some protested his continuous stay as the PRTT boss, while some hailed Maina and asked the Senate to leave him alone, although others called for his removal as PRTT boss.

Those against him carried placards that read, ‘Maina is not above the law’, ‘Maina must go’, ‘Maina must be prosecuted’, ‘and enough is enough’.

Incidentally, at the same time the senate committee members were waiting for Maina, he was busy addressing the protesters.

If not for the intervention of heavily armed security personnel, the situation would have grown out of hand.

The Chairman of the committee in anger faulted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), who failed to arrest Maina and bring him to the national assembly. He however accused Maina for disrespecting the committee.

He said, “We have been here and believing that we want to give the Acting Director of Customs, Immigration, Prison Pension Office (CIPPO), Dr. Maina, a fair hearing.

“We have been sitting and adjourning to make sure he is here so that we can give him a fair hearing because in the other pension public hearing, he said he did not have a fair hearing.

“Today we have been here and we’ve kept these people waiting for one hour. Incidentally, the IGP is not here.

“The Senate under Senate President David Mark issued a warrant of arrest and directed the IGP to present and compel Maina’s appearance before this committee by 12 noon today.

“We have been waiting here for more than one hour and we have not seen him.

“Today we are not going to waste your time. Since we have promised, we want to make sure we give him a fair hearing.

“After consultation with members of this committee, we have decided to adjourn this sitting indefinitely.”

The Co-chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Gaya, also expressed frustration.

He said, “I have information from the police that Maina is at the gate addressing his supporters, instead of coming here.

“We want him to be here. The committee will decide what to do.

“One thing is that we have been honest and sincere. We want to put it on record. God knows we have tried. We leave him to God.”

    They have just shown us how gutless they are. Or did they collect money from him? Maina isn’t a Messiah at all. He kept the money in the banks, and was collecting interest on it from banks, rather than pay the poor/dying pensioners, and they call him a messiah? Ashe Nigerians are in for a long thing. So gullible and easily swayed by money, very sad!

    Nigerians need honest leaders. We do not need the federal legislature at its present form. They are all there looking for bribe money. They have been bribed and they chose to keep quiet. Shameless Senators.

    If you are leaving Maina for God, All the Boko Harams and the kidnappers and the robbers must be left for God. You are bird of the same feathers. Are you saying the man is above the law? One day, I am sure, he will enter into the hand of the people that will not leave him for God but examine him by the law of the land.

    Nigerian as far as I’m concerned,isn’t a country,its a jungle where anything goes. Law offenders are not prosecuted,instead the so-called law makers collect money and tell Nigerians that they leave it to God. So they belief in God our roadss are in mess,they belief in God everything is in upside down state. They should all fool themselves and not me. They will all die 1 by 1. They will either die in helicopter clashes or die of various ailments with their loots!
