FG Gives out N3.5 billion to Federal University Lokoja

N3.5 billion has been released so far for the take off of the Federal University, Lokoja, by the Federal Government.

Initially N1.5 billion was disbursed for the provision of facilities at the temporary campus, then N2b for the development of the permanent site.

Furthermore, the bill for the legislation of the nine newly established federal universities would soon be signed into law by the president.

The above information was made available by the Minister of Education, Prof. Rukayyatu Rufa’i on Monday in Lokoja when she attended the first matriculation ceremony of the university.

Speaking at the ceremony, she added, approval had also been given for the physical master plan of the university, saying, “no meaningful development can be achieved without education.”

She said that 2,391 students had been matriculated by eight of the new universities

Earlier, the Kogi Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi said that the state was ready was ready to work with the federal government in the recent move for the reconstruction of the educational sector.

He added, “The government intended to use the new institution as a research centre for the transformation and development of the state.”

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulmumuni Rafindadi, in her welcome address said the institution would not tolerate and had no place for examination malpractice, cultism, and other social vices.

Dr. George Kwanashi delivered a matriculation lecture titled, “State of the Education in Nigeria Today,” called for a chance, after noting the flaws in the nation’s educational system.

443 students in three faculties were matriculated at the ceremony.

The new universities include, Federal University, Dutse, Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State.

Others are Federal University, Lafia, Federal University, Lokoja, Federal University, Ndufu-Alike-Ikwo, Ebonyi State.

Also included are Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State and Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State.
