President Jonathan to end Nigeria’s over-reliance on oil

If the promises of President Jonathan are anything to go by, then we look forward for a better, more diversified economy soon, as President Jonathan has promised to end Nigeria’s overdependence on oil.

The president promised that his administration would not leave any stone unturned in his quest to diversify the nation’s economy.

The President, represented by his deputy, Namadi Sambo said this during a command performance dinner held at the Presidential Villa in honour of participants of the Abuja National Carnival on Monday.

As a way of diversifying the economy, Jonathan said the Federal Government would keep promoting sustainable growth in the nation’s tourism and culture sector.

According to him, Nigeria has everything it needs to be the number one tourist destination in the world.

He further promised that the government would continue to provide favourable investment climate as well as business incentives to both local and foreign investors in order to boost the economy, he said this while acknowledging support of the private sector for the Abuja national festival.

He said, “The laudable dreams that gave birth to the carnival have continued to motivate its annual celebration, anchored on the recognition that there exists a nexus between culture and the economic and technological growth of a nation.

“The Abuja Carnival has proven to be one successful step in directing attention to the untapped huge investment opportunities in Nigeria’s exceptionally rich and diverse cultural and artistic heritage.”

In his comments, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Denzil Douglas, highly praised President Jonathan and Nigerians for underpinning socio-cultural ties between his country and Nigeria.

He also showed appreciation to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, for engaging him to partake in this year’s carnival.

Earlier, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Mr. Edem Duke, said he is optimistic that the carnival will definitely contribute its quota to the development and transformation of the nation.
