How Cross River state lost N1 billion to fire incidents

The Government and people of Cross-River State has unfortunately lost over Na1 billion worth of property to fire incidents in this year.

This development was disclosed by the State’s director of Emergency Management Agency, (CRSEMA) Mr. Vincent Aquah, in his words, “over N1 billion worth of property have been lost to fire incidents in the state this year.”

In a statement signed by an Assistant Director of Information of the agency, Mr David Akate, Aquah said the items lost to fire incidents range from public and residential buildings, cars, warehouses, and business centres.

In his judgement, he said 80 per cent of the incidents were caused by humans and could have been averted if proper preventive measure were taken.

He described the situation as unfortunate and called on owners of houses, shops, markets, warehouses, and other public centres to use preventive procedures of keeping handy fire extinguishers, sand buckets, as well as chemicals necessary to fight fires.

Finally, the CRESMA boss advised against the storage of petrol and other highly inflammable materials in houses.
