Accountant General summoned over N82bn revenue shortfall

The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Jonah Otunla, has been summoned by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has summoned over an alleged N81.9 billion revenue shortfall in the 2006 Appropriation Act.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, and the Permanent Secretary in charge of Ecological Fund in the Presidency was also summoned.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and the Director of Finance in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation were not left out. They have been summoned to assist in the investigation into the management of the Ecological Fund in the last ten years.

Hon. Solomon Adeola, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, disclosed this at the weekend, in a chat with journalists. He said they seek for explanations on the shortfall in the revenue that accrued to the Federation Account in 2006, adding that the AGF is to appear unfailingly before the committee alongside all the concerned revenue collecting agencies in respect of all pending issues in the 2006 budget

He said the AGF is expected to organise all necessary documents through the agencies appearing alongside him, to make bare the mystery surrounding the revenue shortfall.

According to Adeola, the probe of the Ecological Fund was necessitated followed complaints in the Auditor-General’s report of non-specific reflection of special funds in the Financial Statements of the Federation Account.

He said all information brought forward should clearly state the monthly receipts, sources, disbursement made there from, list of beneficiaries, and available balance to discover the source of the irregularity suspected.
Adeola also disclosed that the committee also seeks for a copy of the Presidential Modification Order that conferred the powers on the President to manage the Stabilisation Account.
