Agricultural Extension: FG empowers 700 women and youths in Imo State

A total number of 700 women and youths are presently receiving training in Imo State on how to make bread, biscuits, and cake from cassava. The programme is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, under its Extension Services Programme.

The programme was made possible by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha and anchored by the National Crops Research Institute (NCRI) Umudike.

The Executive Director of NCRI, Dr. Julius Okonkwo, represented by Dr. Godwin Asumugha, declared the workshop opened. Dr. Okonkwo said the 700 participants would be trained on how to make bread from cassava tubers in line with the vision of the Federal Government.

He decried the high rate of unemployment in the country, adding that women and youths are the most affected. He said the programme was designed to equip farmers on how to harness the enormous potential in roots and crops. With the programme, unemployment will be reduced to some extent, he said.
