FG Introduces PIF Scheme to Boost Efficiency in Civil Service

The Federal Government has launched the Performance Improvement Facility (PIF) scheme in ten pilot MDAs. The PIF is expected to improve quality, efficiency and enhance access to services provided by the federal civil Service.

 

The development was disclosed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isa Bello Sali at a launching in Abuja. He said government was moving ahead to meet global standards in delivering programmes and services with the use of technology.

 

“It is also being used as an enabler to make services available, integrated, and accessible to citizens through all modes of delivery channels. It is therefore our duty to take a government-wide approach to improve service delivery and to use technology creatively to support this vision,” he said.

“In pursuit of this objective, the office undertook an Identity Needs Assessment of the administrative and technical methods and processes that hinder efficient service delivery in the Federal Civil Service.”

 

He said to achieve best service delivery to citizens, they need to adopt innovations based on the assessment done. “Consequently, through the support of the World Bank Economic Reforms and Governance Project (ERGP), we engaged the services of seven reputable consultancy firms to deploy information and communications technologies to improve the quality, efficiency, and access of services in ten MDAs of the Federal Civil Service.”

 

The plan involved among others, the Permanent Secretaries in charge of State House, Ministries of Labour and Productivity, Niger Delta, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Information, Works, Trade and Investment, Science, and Technology, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation were involved in the scheme and Office of the Secretary to the Government of Federation.

 

Earlier the Permanent Secretary in charge of Manpower Development Office/ Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mrs. Nkechi Ejele, disclosed that between October 21, 2012 and January 15, 2013 the consultancy firms would deploy ICT systems in the ten pilot MDAs.
