Darius Ishaku, the Minister of State for Power, has ordered that every one of the 33/11KV transformers, panels, oils as well as other power tools at the Central Stores of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria,(PHCN), Shogunle, Lagos , be distributed to every fraction of the country that needs them, in not more than 2 weeks.

This declaration was made by the Assistant Director, Press, Patricia Doweritshe, the idea is to improve the plight of the communities without power supply due to defective transformers.

The Minister’s impromptu visit to the PHCN Central Stores uncovered the hoarded stash of power equipment. The minister was amazed that over 2000 transformers plus other frills for the transmission and supply of power to Nigerians was redundant at the central stores, while customers are complaining and suffering in darkness because of damaged transformers, she said.

She said, the Minister visited Port of the Nigeria Customs , to take inventory of all the Power equipment at their care since 2004. He collected the equipment from Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs, Abdulahhi Inde Dikko, and thanked the Customes for keeping them safe for all these years.

Ishaku assured that, the equipment would strengthen power supply in the country, as they would be circulated to all successor companies of the PHCN according to their needs.

He said a Distribution Committee would put in place to spot areas of needs to allow each company take delivery of the existing equipment.

The Minister added that, the government is keen and working hard to see a significant improvement in power supply by the end of October.
