One year after the Federal Government carried out a major shake-up in the aviation sector, a similar exercise has been repeated with the dismissal and redeployment of some directors.

In the latest shake-up, seven General Managers have been asked to go at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The General Manager, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Iliyasu Maitala, has been sacked.

Others sacked in FAAN included Abiodun Oyedepo (General Manager, Mechanical); Engineer J. Agbo (General Manager, Civil Building); G.Solanke (General Manager, Facilitation); A. Adefarakan (General Manager, Stores); Sam Komolafe (General Manager, Commercial); and Mrs. F.O. Ayeni (Acting General Manager, Audit).

The former Acting General Manager, Administration, Ibrahim Daiyabu, has been moved to Kano as North Central Regional Manager.

The Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. George Uriesi, said on Tuesday that the restructuring of the organisation is in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government.

The restructuring included the establishment of three new directorates and the collapsing of one, bringing the total number of directorates in the organisation to nine.

According to Uriesi, “the new structure of the organisation reflects a modern airport company’s administrative structure and focuses the organisation properly on executing its strategic objectives.”

The erstwhile Directorate of Environment has been collapsed into a department and will be headed by a General Manager, under the Directorate of Airport Operations, while the three new Directorates are Projects, Legal Services and Cargo Development.

The Directorate of Airport Operations is to be headed by Mr. Henry Omeogu, while the Directorate of Finance and Accounts is to be headed by Mr. Austin Tadafera.

Directorate of Human Resources and Administration will be headed by Hajia Salamatu Umar-Eluma, who was until her promotion, the General Manager, Training.

The Directorate of Legal Services is to be headed by Mr. Mark Jacobs, while the Directorate of Commercial and Business Development will be headed by Dr. Adeniyi Balogun.

The Directorate of Maintenance and Engineering will be headed by Engineer Olufemi Ogunode, as the former Director of Engineering, Engineer Sale Dunnoma takes over the Directorate of Projects.

Sir Wendel Ogunedo retains his position as Director of Aviation Security Services, while Mr. Uche Ofulue takes charge at the Directorate of Cargo Development.

The erstwhile Public Affairs Department of the Authority has now been split into two separate departments, Corporate Communications and Protocol and Passages.

Mr. Yakubu Datti becomes the General Manager of Corporate Communications while erstwhile General Manager of Public Affairs, Mr. Akin Olukunle becomes the General Manager of Protocol and Passages.

The changes at NAMA affected the former Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Mrs. Afolake St.Matthew-Daniel, now posted to the NCAT.

There is also the position of Company Secretary and Board Secretary.

The former Director of Finance and Administration at NAMA, Mrs. Elizabeth Agom, has been posted to the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), while the erstwhile General Manager, Finance, Alhaji Salau Nuhu Ozigi has been redeployed to the NCAA.

The former Deputy General Manager, Finance, Mr. Olusegun Agbolade takes over as the new General Manager, Finance, NAMA.

At the NCAA, the Director of Airworthiness Standards, Engineer Patrick Ekunwe, as well as his counterpart in Aerodrome Standards, Alhaji Lawal Haruna, were believed to have been asked to go.

Haruna will be replaced by Joyce Nkemakolam, while Mrs. Fatima Garbati is the new Director of Air Transport Regulation.

Until the promotion, Garbati was the Acting Director, Consumer Protection Unit.
