Environment Minister and HOD’s sign Performance Agreements

In a bid to stamp out irregularities and entrench transparency, the Minister of Environment, Mrs. Hadiza Ibrahim Mailafia, has signed  performance agreements with Heads of Departments, Agencies and Parastatals and units in the ministry.

At the ministry’s conference room in Abuja, she advised government officials to show greater resourcefulness, and dedication to project deliverance that are in line with the performance union they gladly appended their signatures.

“Clearness, transparency and responsibility in government deeds and the need to reject the ‘business as usual’ mind-set of government officials are vital”, she said.

She reiterated her plans that, of greater inspection and searchlight will from now on be aimed at directors, to appraise their ability to take ideas and complete different projects in stated periods.

She maintained that projects must not remain “on-going” eternally, but ought to have a specific terminal date. “We cannot continue having outstanding debts,” she added.

The minister stated that the performance pointers were resultant from efforts of the departments and agencies on their statutory mandates, as well as areas that the federal government regards as significant to the masses.

She articulated with hope that the periodical assessments that would proceed afterward from the agreement would be such that all in the mix would be happy of their transformed efficacy and good organization.

Commenting on the major performance restrictions point out in the contracts, the minister articulated with hope that about six more offices would be created soon by the National Environmental Standards Regulatory and Enforcement Agency. Forest reserves would be transformed properly by the National Parks Services and there would be more efficient use of environmental health officers in the states by the Environmental Health Officers Regulatory Council to guarantee cleaner, improved environmental observations.

She continued that other projects include more erosion and flood control, cleaner energy, stoves to be procured as well as distributed for Climate Change adaptation, and renewed efforts to check desertification.
