Okonjo-Iweala to open bankers’ conference

The Coordinating minister of the Economy and Minister for Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will tomorrow declare open the yearly Banking and Finance Conference at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The conference, with the theme “Transformation of the African Economy: Financial Services Industry as Catalyst’’, is being organised by The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, in collaboration with Alliance of African Institutes of Bankers. It is expected to attract participants from across the globe.

The institute, through the event, hopes to shed more light on developments in the economy, as well as make suggestions towards facilitating economic growth.

Four critical issues are to be discussed at the various sessions during the conference. They are; Embedding E-banking Habits: Prospects and Challenges. Financing the Real Sector: Issues and Resolutions, Corporate Governance Ethics & Professionalism: Raising the Moral Barometre and Fostering an Effective Intra-African Trade: The Way Forward.

According to the institute, the conference would assess the financial service industry and develop strategies for repositioning it to effectively play its role in the transformation of the African economy. The conference will also help stakeholders in the banking and finance industry gain new insights and knowledge to achieve the desired objective.
