Delta Claims 2012 Budget Implementation at 50%

Delta State Government says it has implemented its 2012 budget by about 50 per cent.

The state Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Kenneth Okpara, said this on Wednesday at the commencement of the state’s 2013 budget preview by ministries and agencies in Asaba.

He said that the performance rate was determined by the number of projects already completed and payment made for capital project at the end of July.

Okpara said that the draft of the 2013 budget would be ready in October.

He said that the appropriation bill would be passed by the House of Assembly and signed into law by the state governor before the end of the year.

The News Agency of Nigeria quotes the commissioner as saying that the 2013 budget would focus on completion of ongoing projects and the inauguration of new ones.

He urged government agencies and ministries to identify projects needed by the communities and ways to ensure that that public infrastructure added value to their host communities.

The commissioner said that the two-week budget preview was to generate data for the 2013 budget.

“The final output of the budget review will go the State Executive Council through the state governor for consideration and approval before it will be sent to the State House of Assembly by latest October,’’ he said.
