Citizens on Social Media offer Kudos to Jonathan as Power Situation Improves

Clusters of the suburbs in Lagos and other communities nationwide are noticing improved quantum of power supply from the national grid.

Observers are happy that it seems there is something to finally be thankful to the Goodluck Jonathan administration for after many depressing disappointments.

On one of Nigeria’s most famous websites, Nairaland, several members of the forum were discussing the state of power in the country.

One member with the screen nne3870 said, “I think they [government] are improving becaused in my area we now have 20 hours power supply on a daily basis and i ain’t joking about it. Though my family is on prepaid plan but still on that I think I will gve them a thumbs up this time around.”

Another member with screenname debosky said, “To be fair, the BPE appears serious about its attempt to get the power industry running as demonstrated by the appointment of Manitoba Hydro to run the transmissions company (TCN) on a management contract. Being a competent power operator itself, I hope Manitoba Hydro will be able to bring its experience to bear and improve the transmission segment of the power industry.

“Any country-wide improvements in power supply are usually due to either improved generation from the hydro-electric stations or improved gas supply to the generation stations. Local power supply in any area tends to fluctuate from month to month so it’s not reliable to draw a conclusion from a local, momentary improvement.”

The Federal Government recently put social media in a bad light when it said the medium only portrayed the negative side of the government.

Several individuals had faulted the Federal Government in the persons of David Mark, Senate President and a Mrs. Sarah Pane, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties and Social Development Matters for lambasting the platform of social media as a tool for citizens to critique the activities and performance of government.

In an emailed statement this morning, Okechukwu Ofili, an author, illustrator and motivational speaker said the statements from the government were worrying.

He said, “Statements like this worry me, because it makes me realize that in this day and age…people (politicians and businesses alike) still don’t get social media. Social media is not a magical tool that alters your character when it feels like and neither is it like print media where you can pay millions of manipulative naira to get adverts touting your good work….

“Rather Social media is a truth amplification tool, one that works to amplify your true characteristics and traits…whether positive or negative.”
