Nigerian Stock Exchange Brief: ASI (+1.11%) Rallies Big, Market Cap Crosses N 7 trillion mark
The All share index (ASI) rallied big gaining 111 basis points. The strong performance was buoyed by the banking sub-index whic was up a whopping 2.06%.
Market Capitalization crossed the N 7 trillion mark for the first time in several weeks and the Year-to-Date return of the market increased to 5.79%.
The Consumer Goods sub-index was up 1.5% whilst the Oil & Gas sub-index also appreciated 1.21%; the Insurance sub-index was up marginally by 0.02%.
Strong performances were recorded by blue chip stocks including Oando, Nigerian Breweries, Total, and Dangote Flour.
The top 5 gainers on the bourse today were Access (+5%), Stanbic (+5%), 7uP (+5%), Zenith (+5%) and Dangote Flour (+5%).
The top 5 losers were Wapic (-5%), Jos Breweries (-4.7%), Custody (-4.5%), ASL (-4.3%), NAHCO (-4%).
Activity on the exchange was dominated by UBA, First Bank, Starcomms, and Continental RE, as they all traded in excess of 20 million units.
270 million shares valued at N 2.3 billion exchanged hands today.
