IFC signs $2.3 million Health Insurance agreement with Nigeria

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has signed a $ 2.3 million agreement with the Federal Government that will fast track the development of health insurance in the country.

The agreement was signed by the acting Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Alhaji Abdulraman Sambo and senior officials of the IFC.

According to Sambo the agreement would go a long way to ensure all Nigerians have universal health care.

He said, “We are looking at ways and means of fast-tracking the enrollment of the majority of Nigerians into the various programmes of NHIS and identifying the sources of finance that will ensure that these people have some form of health cover.

“The total cost of the project is $2.3m; the IFC is to provide an unconditional grant of 60 per cent of the fund. NHIS is to pay 40 per cent of the fund. The project is for six months, and at the end of the six months, NHIS will start implementing the recommendations.”
