Jonathan Commissions 5 million ton Cement Line at Dangote’s Obajana today

The President is expected to commission the third production line at Dangote Cement’s Obajana plant today. The line has a production capacity of 5.25 million tons.

The Obajana cement plant which is the biggest in Africa will then have a poduction capacity of over 10 million tons of cement.

The President is also expected to perform the ground breaking ritual for a fourth production line which will add an additional 3 million tons by 2013.

Dangote Cement chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has stated that his company is eager to begin exportation of cement and has already begun converting its import terminals to export terminals and will begin exporting to regional countries where cement supply is in shortfall to demand.

He said Dangote Cement was on course to reach a production capacity of 60 million metric tonnes per annum by 2015.

His words:  “For us at Dangote Group, we are convinced that home-grown economies will enable Africa to take her destiny in her own hands. That is why we want to place Nigeria on the world map as a major cement producing nation. We have what it takes to spearhead the economic emancipation of the continent.”
