FG Yet to Pay for SURE Buses Delivered During Protests – Supplier

By on May 25, 2012

The Federal Government has yet to pay the supplier of the mass transit buses it acquired in February under the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment (SURE) scheme.

The supplier of the buses, VON Automobiles Nigeria Limited has alleged that the government is in debt to it to the tune of N 1.6 billion and has even threatened legal action due to moves by government to arbitrarily reduce the cost of the buses already supplied.

The MD of the company, Mr. Tokunbo Aromolaran spoke to members of the House Committee on Investment who visited the VON assembly plant in Lagos.

He said, “We have not been paid a dime for the 160 buses we have supplied so far; that is the problem of government patronizing you.”

He asked the lawmakers to lobby for more government patronage for indigenous companies like his own despite the bottlenecks he earlier mentioned.
