Banks Alert Customers on Urgency of NUBAN-compliant Cheques before Deadline
Banks operating in Nigeria have been sending notifications out to their customers reminding them of the impending Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) deadline on the new Nigerian Uniform Bank Account Numbers (NUBAN).
The CBN has set June 1 for the commencement of NUBAN meaning that from next month bank customers will be unable to transact business with their banks unless they know their new bank account numbers.
Even more cumbersome, customers that do not have cheques with the NUBAN will be unable to get their issued cheques honored by their banks.
In order to forestall any major customer service issues, the banks have sent out series of text messages and emails reminding their customers to order new cheque books before the deadline.
Most new cheque books cost about N1,100 for 50 leaves and double the amount for 100 leaves.
