Nigeria Set to Re-commence Fuel Haulage by Rail

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is set to begin inter-state and inter-regional fuel haulage in the country.

This development comes as the Lagos to Kano route is almost re-established. The NRC has been hauling cement inter-state (from Ogun to Kwara) for Lafarge since last year, and is set to commence delivery of petroleum products via its tracks as it has already taken ownership of twenty pressurized wagons for this purpose.

The fuel haulage wa actually set to commence in April but delays in the reconstruction of the Akere bridge in Niger state constituted a delay.

According to NRC spokesperson, David Ndakotsu, the bridge is 97% complete, and fuel haulage service is expected to begin in June.

Public Relations Officer, NRC, Mr. Segun Esan said, “Marketers and other domestic users will like to take advantage of these benefits in both operation and business dealings. Once the goods have been loaded correctly at the origin, they can go to sleep and expect their goods at the destination in good time.”
