Jonathan’s Chief Economic Adviser Delusional on Power Situation in Nigeria

The Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Prof. Nwanze Okedigbe, has claimed that the power generation in the country now stands at 4,400 Megawatts. This is in spite of the fact that many Nigerians are still wallowing in perpetual darkness as no electricity is made available to them.

Businessnews can authoritatively report that parts of Onike and other suburbs of Lagos,  have not had up to 12 hours electricity in the past seven days.

Yet the President’s Chief Economic Adviser seems to embrace the delusion that Nigeria is on the path to achieving its grandiose plan of becoming one of the top 20 economies in the world by 2020.

According to him, “The President has begun a reform programme aimed at providing the enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, that is easing business setups or exiting if need be. That was why he recently had a conversation with the private sector with a view to finding a way forward because we have an ambition to become one of the best 20 largest economies in the world by the year 2020.

“And to achieve that we need to attract investments. But these investments cannot work without adequate power base. That is why Mr. President uses every part of his waking hours to think of how to improve on this.  That is why he has set up the Presidential Committee on Power, I am a member of that committee. This has led to the improvement of power generation that has grown from 2800 when he became President to the present level of more than 4400 mega watts.  Actually, what we are generating now is more than this level, but because of some issues. Once we resolve that, we would have more power to distribute.”
