Guinness Appoints New CEO

The Managing Director/CEO of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Devlin Hainsworth will, effective 1 July 2012, assume the role of CEO and Group Managing Director of East African Breweries Limited (EABL), a subsidiary of Diageo Plc. Mr Seni Adetu, who is currently the CEO and Group Managing Director of EABL will assume as Managing Director/CEO of Guinness Nigeria also with effect from 1 July 2012.

Mr Devlin Hainsworth joined Diageo in 1999 and was the MD of Guinness Ghana until 2006 during which he transformed the business, significantly increased profits, managed brand share growth and led the acquisition of Ghana Breweries Limited to consolidate Diageo’s leadership position.

In 2006 Mr Hainsworth moved to become Business Transformation Director for Africa and led a highly successful SAP roll-out across our businesses.

He was appointed Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc in 2008.

Mr Seni Adetu has led East African Breweries Limited since July 2009. Prior to this role he served as Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, which he joined in August 2006 from the Coca-Cola Company. During his time in Ghana, Mr Adetu led the integration of Guinness Ghana and Ghana Breweries Limited, creating a winning culture and driving a strong market share growth.

Under Mr Adetu’s leadership, EABL has risen to become the most capitalised company listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and a clear leader in the East African region.

During his tenure, EABL has continued to excite consumers and earn the trust and respect of investors and stakeholders alike. The EABL beer portfolio has grown and the business has witnessed a transformational performance in spirits. The business has also rapidly expanded with great momentum built behind EABL’s total adult beverage strategy across the consumer spectrum with the innovation agenda being deemed as leading edge under Mr. Adetu’s stewardship in this market.
