Akintola Williams Deloitte Breaks Silence on Role in Fuel Subsidy Fiasco
The management of Akintola Williams Deloitte has absolved itself from any responsibility concerning its role in the fuel subsidy scam.
The company said it was only responsible for vessels allocated to it, and verified those vessels properly. The firm said it was not too be held liable for an audit process it did not design, a process which saw other governmental agencies such as Customs, Navy, Ports Authority, DPR and other independent inspectors come into contact with the cargo after Akintola had finished its own inspection.
The CEO of the company, Adeniyi Obe, speaking at a press briefing in Lagos stated that Akintola Williams was allocated only a fraction of the vessels carrying petroleum products, and the firm was responsible for verifying the volumes of imported petroleum products imported by independent oil marketers.
He said, “”We carried out our work within the mandate of our agreement with the Budget Office of the Federation and with the highest professional standards expected of any responsible professional services provider.”
