Ondo may emerge 1st State to Have Uninterrupted Power as Mimiko Plans for 50MW Plant in Ore

The Ondo State Government has indicated that it is committed to building a 50 Megawatt power plant in Ore town in order to boost the industrialization of the state as well as to add to the National grid.

Governor Mimiko disclosed this in Monday at a workshop on the implementation of the 2012 budget organized by the state Ministry of Economic Planning.

According to Mimiko, the State was taking advantage of legislation recently introduced that allows States and Local Governments to generate electricity.

The Governor said, “The best way to fast-track economic growth and development in any society is to guarantee stable power supply, and that is why we are leveraging on the current liberalisation of the power sector.

“We will exploit the proposed gas plant project in Ore to generate at least 50 megawatts of electricity, using gas to power the industries that will be attracted to the emerging city that will soon be the economic hub in the country.”

The state is already in advanced talks with a foreign technical partner and will sign an MoU soon.

The Governor speaking on capital projects in the state said no new contract will be awarded in 2012 fiscal year, but rather focus will be on completion of previously awarded contracts.
