Poor Gas Supply Causes Electricity Generation to fall 900 Megawatts as Nigerians battle Heatwave

The minister for Power, Professor Barth Nnaji has blamed the recent state of extremely poor power supply in the country on poor gas supply. The minister says power generation has fallen by 900 megawatts causing Nigerians to battle the ongoing heatwave in the country with light sense of humor and other creative methods.

Such methods include taking several showers a day, and stockpiling petrol products for independent power generation for home, office and/or business use.

Poor gas supply has caused Nigerian power generation to fall from about 4,200 megawatts in January to just over 3,200 megawatts this week.

Some suburbs of Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria are currently experiencing less than 3 hours of electricity a day. Bodija, an affluent suburb in Ibadan is said to have not had any power supply for the past three weeks.

Many Nigerians are increasingly growing weary of the government’s progress on power supply to the populace, but as internet blogger Tolu Ogunlesi said recently, “there is candlelight at the end of the tunnel”.

   Yet this country is selling gas to Ghana for power generation. Madness !!
