Nigerian Stock Exchange Watch: ASI Gains 1.13% as Bulls outperform Bears

The Stock Market gained 113 points today due to an overwhelming outing of bullish performers successfully overcoming initial bearish sentiment.

Dangote cement was up 285 points. Other blue chips trading in the green today included UAC (+5%) , Nigerian Breweries (+3.16%), Unilever (+1.76%), Cadbury (+2.36%), Flour Mills (+2.67%), and Honeywell (0.48%).

The banking sub-sector saw an equal number of gainers and losers, notably FCMB (+2.49) appreciated, despite reporting a loss of over N 9 billion today. Other gainers in today’s trading were Sterling (+3.23%), Fidelity (+2.86%), Access (+0.31%), Stanbic (+1.06%) and Zenith (+0.69%).

GTBank (-0.77%) fell despite reporting a N 52 billion profit on Friday and announcing an 85 kobo dividend. Union (-4.91%), UBA (-1.87%), Skye (-0.24%) and First Bank (-0.1%) were all down in the day’s session.

Across the insurance sub-sector, Continental Re (+4.35%), Goldlink (+3.51%), GTAssure (+1.64%) closed up.Prestige and Custodian lost a combined total of 490 points.

The All Share Index closed at 21,060.21 points.

Over 183 million shares valued at N 1.73 billion exchanged hands.
