NCC seals Techno office over uncertified products
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Wednesday sealed the Lagos office of Techno, a mobile phone manufacturer, over alleged production of uncertified products.
Mr Efosa Idehen, the NCC Head of Enforcement Unit, told journalists that followed the team that only two of over 30 models of mobile phones on sale in Nigeria were approved by the commission.
Idehen said that the commission had always instructed the distributors of phones to sell only approved products.
”We advise them to bring their phones for type-approval. If they pass the test, then, they can be allowed to sell in the Nigerian market.
”We want Nigerians to obey Nigerian laws; there are laws guiding the sale of telecommunications equipment.
”All the big manufacturers submit their phones for type-approval and Techno should not be an exception.
”We want the Nigerian market to grow, but it must grow through obeying the rules of the industry,” the enforcement officer said.
Mr Reuben Muoka, Head of Media and Publicity in NCC, said that the commission had insisted on type-approval to ensure that all products in the market met the required standard.
