Islamic Development Bank Commits $470 million for Almajiri Education
The Islamic Development Bank has committed the sum of $ 470 million for the bilingual education of almajiri’s in the country.
Dr. Ahmed Mohamed-Ali revealed this during a courtesy call to the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala on Wednesday.
Speaking on an initial disbursement, he said, “We are going to sign a $98m agreement, we all believe this should be a beginning and it could be enlarged in the future”.
Also speaking on the development, Mrs. Iweala said, “I think we have potential to develop an even stronger relationship with IDB, we mostly access financing for poverty alleviation, food security programmes.
“I think we have access to about $30m worth. We are working on a very interesting programme for bilingual education to help our young children, the almageries school, to integrate into standard education system.”
“We see the IDB as a strong multilateral institution like the African Development bank and the world Bank,that is why we are happy to work with them,’’ she added.
