Power Breakdown Disrupt Flights in Nigeria
Airline operations were shut down last night at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja due to power breakdown which destroyed the air field lighting, as well as runway and taxi lights.
The breakdown led to an immediate diversion of flights to other airports and fights schedule for take off were consequently cancelled.
Dailypost learnt that the Delta Ailines flight scheduled to take off to Atlanta, USA around 7.00pm was also cancelled as passengers were left stranded.
International flights were all cancelled while some passengers were asked to return home. Relatively, other international passengers were checked into their hotels according to international civil aviation rules.
Airport Engineer who had thought that it was a mere power outage were shocked when it was learnt that the airfield lighting had a problem as the generating sets at the airport failed to bring light as well.
Dailypost reporters could not reach FAAN officials at the time of this report to confirm the incident as all calls put across could not
yield any fruitful result.
