Pension Scam Investigator Ordered Arrested for Embezzlement

The Senate has ordered the arrest of the Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina and ordered the Inspector General of Police to produce him this morning by 10am.

This comes following allegations that the Chairman was involved in the opening of bank accountants without recourse to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

Maina also stands accused of utilizing over N 200 million to capture the biometrics data of only 20 pensioners in the diaspora.

The allegations were made by the Assistant Chief Accountant, Police Pension Office, Mr. Toyin Ishola.

Ishola told the Senate Joint Committee investigating pension fraud, “It was gathered that the amount in Fidelity Bank, Central Business District Branch was domiciled in the account of the younger brother of the Chairman Pension Reform task team, named Danjuma Zubairu, and the said amount was fixed since then with a monthly interest of over N100 million into the coffers of the perpetrators of the act. N3 billion was deposited in UBA up till date with no proper documentation has been effected.”

He accused Maina of  transferring a total of N21 billion into three different accounts including N8 billion into Fidelity Bank account No 5030024748, N3 billion to UBA account No 1015556733, and 10 billion to First Bank Plc Maitama branch account No 6062040000231.

Further accusations concerning the bio-metric capture data exercise were revealed when Ishola stated, “It was observed that within the period of the assignment, the chairman of the task team had exceeded his mandate by engaging in frivolous and extravagant expenditures, which were beyond his mandate.

“Among these expenditures were the bogus expenditure of the conduct of the biometric exercise of the retirees in the Diaspora, which he spent a whooping sum of N240 million to capture less than 20 retirees and for the local bio data of which over N220 million was spent.”
