Amuwo-Udofin Local Government Initiates Road User Charge

The Amuwo-udofin local government which consists of the popular FESTAC township area of Lagos State has developed and launched a road user charge scheme which will see commuters in the area pay a specified amount for using public roads.

Chairman of the Local Government, Ayodele Adewale, did not specify the amount to be paid by road users but has said the amount would be negligible. He also stated that the scheme would raise N 25 billion for government coffers which would be used to fund infrastructure projects in the area.

He said, “We introduce the road user charge scheme in order to generate the N25 billion to maintain our roads; revamp the sewage system broken down over 25 years in Festac Town and create over 6,000 jobs for our youths.

“Through public private partnership initiative, we intend to build a multi-purpose office complex, with ultra-modern shopping mall, 4-star hotel and a spacious car park, among others”.

The chairman, speaking on his administrations accomplishments so far stated, “We have renovated all the four Primary Health Care (PHCs) at Mile 2 Igbologun, Sagbokoji and Festac Town to acceptable standard, and maintain 24-hour service, which include Ambulance service, while the upgrading of Abule Ado PHC is almost completed.

“We have constructed the 1, 394m long by 8m wide Circular that has never seen asphalt since the low cost housing estate was created by the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande. We have also rehabilitated 72 Roads, 24 Roads, 6th Avenue, 51 Road, 52 Road, 71 Road, 32 Road, 4th Avenue, 2nd Avenue, 11 Road, 7th Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 41 Road, Alakija and recently the 1.3km long by9m wide 21 Road.”

It remains to be seen how the residents in Festac Town and environs will react to the plan.

   Oga LGA chairman, feed us with the right stories. Na which road u rehabilitate? No be patch-patch u dey do? Alakija bye pass road is still under construction. We know everything, Liar!!!
