Ibori Pleads Guilty to Money Laundering, Faces 10 Years Imprisonment

James Ibori, former governor of Delta State, and godfather of present Delta state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan who seconds as his cousin, has pleaded guilty to multiple count of money laundering and intention to defraud, in a British court today.

Ibori faces imprisonment of up to 10 years and will be sentenced as soon as the trial of Elias Preko, his Ghanian co-defendant is finalized.

Ibori’s wife, mistress and lawyer have already been convicted of various offences bordering on money laundering and have received a  combined sentence of more than ten years imprisonment.

Crown Prosecution Service lawyer, Sasha Wass, QC said the prosecution does not seek to go ahead with Mr. Ibori’s trial anymore saying, ” Mr. Ibori has accepted the entirety  of the prosecution’s case as it has always been set out”.
