Nigeria Loses Over $500 Million Monthly Due to Crude Bunkering – Shell

Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has raised an alarm concerning heightened oil theft activities on its Nembe Creek Trunkline (NCTL).

According to shell over 140,000 barrels per day conservatively valued at $ 16 million/day and $480 million/month are lost to crude oil bunkering gangs.

In a statement signed by Shell Corporate Affairs Head, Tony Okenedo, Shell shed more light on its findings as to the extent of the economic sabotage going on at the Trunkline.

For instance it was discovered that within a distance of 3.8 kilometers, there were over 17 illegal bunkering points. The total distance of the pipeline is 90 kilometers and it was constructed at a cost of over NGN 170 billion.

The Managing Director of Shell, Mutiu Sunmonu, stated, “The level of crude theft at NCTL can no longer be tolerated. “It is difficult to sustain production in the circumstance, as we have to shut down when a facility trips and fix the cause before restarting. This happened three times just between the January 26 and 30, 2012. We have increased surveillance of the route, so we can detect crude theft activities and respond early to spills”.

The MD, SPDC also called for increased and robust intervention by Federal, State and Local governments, highlighting the need for “increased patrol of creeks and waterways, removal of illegal off-take points and dismantling of illegal refineries.”

    Shell ,everyday you recruit in qatar and other places where you operate .
    In nigeria ,you tactically fail to recruit Nigerian youths from The Niger Delta States.This you cannot do in Netherland or us or uk or QAtar .
    Yet you keep doing it in Nigeria with your cronies in Government .

    The level of employemnt is too low . abusive and sub-standard .

    (1) Please ASK yourself, Have these managers respected there VALUES .
     
    (2) With the huge fraud within the NNPC and its agents, the managers, starting from GROUP Managing directors have failed Woefully, defrauding the NATION and bastardising with huge abuse the oil sector which ought to keep every Nigerian happy.
     
    (3) No body is above the law , these guys have committed crimes, relocating them within NNPC is Nothing More like a MOCKERY to Nigerians .
