Nigerian Stock Exchange: ASI Market Capitallization Dips by 0.41%
The Nigerian bourse lost N 26 billion of its market capitalization today as the All Share Index retreated 0.41% to close at 20,790.87.
The general activity in the market saw a decline today as the volume traded slumped by 31% and the value of stocks decreased by 11%.
The banking and consumer goods sectors managed to close upwards despite the overall bearish performance of the market due to strong performances by First Bank (+4.92%), Access (+4.37%), Stanbic (+4.29%), Nigerian Breweries (+2.76%) and Flour Mills (+1.50%).
Heavy selling pressure caused the price of bluechips such as Dangote Cement (-2.55%), Guinness (-2.17%), and Zenith (-3.53%) to fall, dragging the whole index along.
