Ministry of Aviation Should be Scrapped – Aviation Experts

By on January 30, 2012

A group of aviation exerts under the aegis Aviaton Round Table (ART) have called for the scrapping of the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

During a recent meeting, the Chairman of the group, Captain Dele Ore stated that there was multiplicity of purpose with the Aviation ministry and Transportation ministry. The transportation ministry should oversee land, air and sea according to the Captain.

According to Ore, “it was a realization of the correct thing to do that led to the merger of the ministries of Aviation and Transport in 2007, alongside the ministries of Information and Communication. Moreover, there is no basis for merging the agencies that were de-merged in the recommendation of Vision 2010 Report in 1997 and the Aviation Safety Reforms Report of 2006.”

The Chairman of ART also cited an ECOWAS recommendation made in 2000 that called on member states not to appoint a separate minister for the purpose of overseeing the Aviation ministry.
