Cashlite Nigeria: UBA to Deploy 30,000 POS Terminals by Year End
In furtherance of the cashlite policy of the Cental Bank of Nigeria, banks and telecommunications companies have already started boosting and promoting their products and services in this regards.
UBA for instance recently disclosed that it has deployed 3,000 Point of Sales (POS) Terminals already, and stated it hoped to deploy more before the charges come into full effect on March 30th. The bank stated it would strive to deploy 30,000 POS terminals before the end of this year.
According to their E-Banking Unit’s Divisional Head, Mr. Luqman Balogun, “In the spirit of the cash-lite initiative, we have introduced virtual banking products to provide customers with a flexible platform for electronic financial transactions. For instance, U-Direct is our Internet banking platform providing all account holders access to their accounts. It is a secure web based solution that gives users the freedom to access their account from anywhere.
“U-Direct customers are able to conduct most transactions available within UBA branches but without having to visit the branch. They can make payments, transfer funds to other bank accounts, pay bills and remit money.
“U-Mobile, on the other hand, is an alternative payment solution that put a bank in your pocket. Customers can manage their bank accounts and carry out a wide range of financial transactions including instant fund transfers and bill payment, among others.”
