A Retirement With Health Care Challenges

By on December 1, 2011

The concept of retirement rings true until it was shattered by global financial disturbances, demographic shifts and the many corruption and abuses that trailed health care systems. Pensioners die in queuing during horrendous verification processes. Sometimes they are denied their dues and have to fight with unavailable resources. Sometimes these pensioners wait for death to bring peace to their troubling lives.

We have a serious health challenge; and with an extended families to carter for everything is become more difficult. It is surprise to see people with that resignation to fate or searching for cure-all traditional medications. This reason health care is expensive and can be said to be only for the well-to-do.

We are further challenged by modern lifestyle. We have a sedentary lifestyle that has made us vulnerable to money-sapping diseases; making retirement an unpleasant journey towards the close of life.

With our health care systems are in limbo, local clinics are death zones where in dire situations drugs are absent, strikes could keep doctors out of duty, and relevant local research are not being promoted.

With this precarious health situation, we have to save sufficient money but also sleep with both eyes opened because of the recent financial recklessness that happened in the market. We have to save enough money to go abroad for the best medical attention. With a health-care system that is built on out-of-pocket model, we have to continue to work in order to afford care while the rest who can’t suffer or perish.

But medical cost is on the rise, I think society owes everyone good health care and should guarantee same. I think offering free medication to the vulnerable is a must. Government has the capacity to fund and sustain its health care program like no other body can do. For the populace retirement as a concept but just be dead; we have to keep working to stay health.
