3-Day Workshop To Train Lawyers In Oil And Gas Matters Commences Today

Some lawyers from the ministry of Justice have been selected for a three day workshop by the Federal Government.

The workshop which commences today in Abuja is to equip lawyers numbering about 50, selected from oil and gas law department to be able to provide effective legal advice on oil and gas matters to the government.

The three day workshop is put together by the Institute for Oil and Gas Law in Abuja and the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the ministry of justice, , Mr. Bello Adoke.

According to the President of the Institute for Oil and Gas Law, Mr. Niyi Ayoola-Daniels, Nigeria is at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the world in terms of the oil and Gas sector because most agreements that involves multinational companies around the globe leaves Nigeria with little choice and contribution to joint projects.

Ayoola- Daniels added that it is because we do not have indigenous experts that we often accept drafts of contracts handed over by the multinational companies however; steps are being taken to correct the situation.

Training such as this is one of the measures to ensure that Nigeria has a good contribution to future agreements in oil and gas matters with multinational companies.

   this is a laudable initiative. its impact would greatly enhance capabilities of the participants and reposition them for authoritative discharge of expertise in line with oil and gas matters.
