Liquefied Petroleum Gas, A Better Alternative to Kerosene

The Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA)  has called  on the Federal Government  to  promote the usage of    liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), otherwise known as cooking gas,    by introducing  ‘kerosene to LPG conversion programme’ in the country.

In an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, the Association explained that this can be done by   investing in cooking cylinders and 1 / 2 face burners. This Conversion Scheme will help tackle deforestation, desertification, flooding and other natural disasters which are caused by green house gas emissions.

A recent statement by the   Minister for Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke stated that LPG is the alternative to kerosene.

“The Federal Government and Nigerians can make a lot of savings by switching from kerosene to LPG. Ilu pointed out. He added that government should partner with the private sector to provide LPG infrastructure such as storage, filling station, skid tank and LPG truck.

“The Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) is prepared and willing to collaborate and work with the Federal Ministry of Petroleum, NNPC, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and all other major stakeholders to increase LPG consumption in Nigeria”.

“This will be financed from the ecological fund and is a way Government will reduce carbon emissions and comply with the Kyoto Protocol. It is expected that LPG appliances / equipment will enjoy a reduction on import duty and other levies”.
