It Takes Statistical Data to Proffer Solutions to Aviation’s Challenges

At the second meeting of the Aviation Statistical Committee for 2011 in Ota, Ogun State, The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), George Uriesi, challenged the committee to come up with a statistical data framework that would enhance decision making, and proffer solutions to challenges that are peculiar to the industry.

According to him, The Nigerian aviation industry would be repositioned and transformed when accurate statistical data are made available to facilitate the implementation of government policies in the country’s aviation industry

At the event, Uriesi was represented by FAAN’s acting Director of Airport operations, Tope Tubi. He said that   time had come for managers in the aviation industry to rise to the major challenges in the industry. He identified these as dwindling resources.

According to him, “Detailed and constant information will give the industry the edge over others, and enable us to weather the storm,”. He said the challenges can be addressed by managing more effectively and efficiently, statistical appraisals of the major activities of the various agencies in the industry.

Earlier in his keynote address, the Director of planning, procurement analysis and research in the Ministry of Aviation, Mr. A. S. Gurin, stated that the vision of the present administration “is to build a safe, secure, an orderly and efficient aviation industry in line with the ICAO and IATA requirements and standards.”
