Total Awards French Construction Company Eiffage $424 Million Contract

By on November 15, 2011

Eiffage, a French construction company has been awarded a $424 million contract to build a metallic oil rig for oil major Total.

The sizable contract will include an oil rig, lodging quarters for over a hundred people, a helipad, a data and communications center and other amenities.

Total recently announced that it had made a second oil discovery at its Oil Mining Lease 102, located 65 kilometers off the southeastern coast of the country about 15 kilometers southeast of the Ofon field.

The size of the contract awarded to a French Construction company despite the passing of the Oil and Gas Local Content Laws will no doubt ruffle a few feathers in the industry. However not many indigenous companies can claim to have the competence to execute such an engineering project and may have to make do with sub-contract jobs for supply of building materials and other aspects of the supply chain requirements.
