Flush Out Sub Standard Products by Giving Us Information-SON

The Director of Enforcement, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Mr. Louis Njoku, stated that The producers of sub-standard products have continued to thrive because buyers, who suffered losses after buying such products, did not report their experiences to the authorities concerned with quality regulation and control.

Citing lack of information from affected consumers as one of the challenges confronting SON, he said if every consumer, who had a bad experience from sub-standard products reported such to SON or Consumer Protection Council, investigations would have been conducted on such products.

He said, “People don’t come forward with information whenever they have bad experiences from using these products. They prefer to throw them away and bemoan their loss in the corners of their rooms. This is not good enough. They must come forward with such products and we can then take it up from there.”

Njoku, who said SON was determined to flush out sub-standard goods in the market, stated that the agency had impounded fake shaving sticks, electric bulbs, cables, among others.

He noted that the use of inferior cables in electrical installations could lead to fire disasters because such cables would not withstand the electrical current.
