Discharged soldiers yet to be paid their entitlement

Some discharged armies are yet to be payed their entitlement. This is a source of worry to the senate committee.

The Senate Committee on Army may soon invite some officials of the Nigeria Army over the refusal of the army to pay the entitlements of the 27 former United Nations peacekeepers, who were compulsorily retired after their release from prison.

A member of the committee, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who represents the Ekiti Central Senatorial District, said the committee would look into the case to see why the ex-peacekeepers had not been paid almost one year after they were freed from prison.

The senator, who is a leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Ekiti State, said paying the discharged soldiers their entitlement was their right.

He said, “I am aware that these people were freed from prison last year but I just learnt that they have not been paid their entitlements. The committee will investigate and find out the reason for the delay.

He also stated ,”I don’t want to jump into conclusion but these people are not the type of people to toy with. They should be paid so that those who want to go into business or any vocation can go ahead with their plans.”
