“Travel Now Pay Later” opportunities Provided by Wakanow & UBA

A structured financing product which allows UBA to grant its account holders credit facilities to purchase travel products is now offered by Wakanow. Also, customer could save up between 50 and 80 per cent on actual travel fares by booking early.

Wakanow.com, an online travel company, has signed a partnership with United Bank of Nigeria Plc to boost travel finance in Nigeria.

The partnership, according to the companies, will aid in financing the travel industry in Nigeria which has not reached its potential due to challenges of credit. Therefore this would go a long way towards bringing structure to an industry that had experienced huge challenges in the past.

The Group Head, Retail Division, UBA, Mr. Chidi Okpala, said that the bank had thrown its weight behind the product because of its usefulness and the positive change it would bring to the Nigerian economy.

The product, which has been tagged “Travel now, pay later” is a structured financing product which allows UBA to grant its account holders credit facilities to purchase travel products offered by Wakanow. The credit facilities would cover products such as flight tickets, holiday packages, hotel accommodation, adding that Wakanow also had a similar deal with Ecobank Nigeria Limited.

The Managing Director, Wakanow, Mr. Obinna Ekezie, said, “Credit is a major challenge in Nigeria, and this is more so for the travel industry which has never experienced travel financing and so we are glad that wakanow is able to pioneer this initiative that will work in the overall interest of the economy, by giving Nigerians the opportunities to carry out their businesses seamlessly.

“By taking advantage of ‘Travel now pay later’, customers would have the opportunity of adequately managing their cash flows, because the credit facilities allow them to pay for up to six months, and they also stand to enjoy cheaper rates, which would reduce costs.”
