Sarkozy and Obama Perpetrate Serious Political Goof, Engage In Name Calling

President Sarkozy made a serious gaffe with potentially toxic political and diplomatic consequences.

It all happened at the G 20 summit held in Cannes, a luxurious French city, very close to the French Riviera.

Sarkozy was in a room with the US President Barack Obama and the topic of discussion must have been the Israel-Palestine conflict that has perpetually heated up the Middle East for several decades.

During the conversation which was off limits to journalists, Nicolas Sarkozy, French Premier said to Obama, “I cannot bear Netanyahu, he’s a liar.”

To which Obama retorted, “You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him even more often than you.”

Unknown to the two leaders, the entire conversation was recorded on microphones present in the room and broadcast live to journalists who were sitting in a separate room.

The technical breach was as a result of the design of the room and it was not that the rooms were bugged.

These statements will likely cause a fall-out between the leaders and further damage an already deteriorating Middle East peace process.

The comments will most likely hurt Obama in the upcoming US presidential election of 2012, as hard line right-wing

Republicans will be sure to portray Obama as an enemy of Israel for not coming to Netanyahu’s defense after Sarkozy made the acidic statement.
