New Range Rover Evoque Launches In India

By on November 8, 2011

Since making its debut appearance in complete flesh and blood at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the Range Rover Evoque has never really ceased to escape the public eye. Having already earned the distinction of being the 2010 Car Design of the Year, the beautifully contoured production ready design of Range Rover’s LRX Concept has finally made its way into India.

Officially launched at the Jaguar Land Rover Corporate Showroom in Mumbai earlier, the Evoque just as we had hoped will be available in both 5 door and 3 door body styles. Even with all its pretty packaging, sophisticated style and drop-dead gorgeous looks, the Evoque, just like any Range Rover ever built promises to be a ruthless off-roader and only a comprehensive road test will turn this trust to undeniable truth.

For those with their eyes locked on the 1605 mm high three door model, Range Rover has packed in a 2.0 L transverse, in-line 4 cylinder direct injection gasoline turbo engine that produces a maximum power of 240 PS and an equally impressive 340 Nm of torque.

Considering the fact that petrol prices seem to be headed towards hill tops, the 5 door model Evoque maybe a better option with its even more powerful 2.2 L 16-valve turbo diesel engine that produces a slightly lower 190 PS of power, but makes up massively with its gut wrenching 420 Nm of torque, more than sufficient to take this 1700 kg SUV up any mountain like it were on the moon.

But performance muscle apart, both the 5 door diesel and the 3 door petrol models are sure to offer their respective owners a sensational drive experience, a major contributing factor to which will be the Evoque’s acutely elegant cabin.

An 8″ inch high resolution Touch Screen, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, 11 speaker Meridian Audio Sound system, Cruise control, Terrain Response, interior mood lighting, steering wheel paddle shifters, brushed aluminium finishes, full grained leather interiors and a full-size panoramic glass sunroof are among the exhaustive list of features that make the Evoque a complete SUV package with loads of refinement.

Speaking at the launch of this car in Mumbai, Rohit Suri, Head of the Premier Car Division, Jaguar Land Rover India said, “The response to the Range Rover Evoque has been phenomenal across the world and India has been no exception. We have seen a lot of interest and excitement around this car in all regions of India and are now pleased to launch the car here through the ‘Evoque Experience’ tour. The ‘Evoque Experience’ will allow customers to get up close and personal with the car and understand the sophisticated design as well as the functional and technological qualities of the car.”

The ‘Evoque Experience’ that will now travel to a number of major cities in the country all through November and December, is certainly your best chance at experiencing what sort of pedigree this vehicle really carries with it.

The Range Rover Evoque (5 door) in India is available in three distinct derivatives – Pure, Prestige and Dynamic, and the Coupe is available in the Dynamic form. Even with prices for the all new Range Rover Evoque starting at Rs. 44.75 lacs (ex-showroom price in Mumbai, pre- Octroi), don’t be surprised if you see this slick off-roader spending longer hours lighting up the city streets rather than taking a tour of Himalayas.
