NCDMB – Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board has entered into a knowledge exchange initiative with Brazilian National Oil Company, Petrobras in its bid to further the development of local content and employment in Nigeria’s oil and gas Industry.

An agreement to this effect was ratified by both agencies when senior officials of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry led by the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr. Ernest Nwapa, paid a benchmarking visit to Petrobras at its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to a statement from the public affairs officer of NCDMB, Mr. Obinna Ezeobi , the partnership followed the success of Petrobras led PROMINP program initiated in 2003 as a response to the desire of Brazilian government to increase the participation of its nationals in the oil and gas value chain.

PROMINP has accordingly recorded significant progress in all facets of Brazil’s oil and gas industry, such that local content in the country grew from 57 percent in 2003 to 74 percent in 2010.

Nwapa stated in the statement that the Board was willing to benchmark its procedures and programmes in line the Brazilian local content development model.

He explained that its association with Petrobras was expected to include knowledge exchanges, understudy visits to build in-house capabilities in NCDMB and referrals of critical investors and suppliers to the Nigerian market.

According to him: “The visit is also a prelude to the embedment of Petrobras personnel in NCDMB as well as to expose Nigerian content staff of oil companies in the country to how operators inBrazil support local content activities.”
