Guber Polls: Nigerians Urged to Vote for Economic Devt

Nigerians have been reminded that their votes are  determining factor in the pattern of development the country would witness in the next four years.

The  Special Adviser to the President on Relations with Civil Society, Chineme Ume-Ezeoke,  who made this call   charged the citizens to vote according to their conscience, which should be guided by reasonable judgment of anticipated restoration of hope, rule of law, equity and better life.

Ume-Ezeoke who spoke in Awka, Anambra State where he addressed Civil Society Groups ahead of Tuesday’s Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections, commended them for their steadfastness and partnership with electoral institutions, which resulted in the delivery of transparent and fair elections witnessed during the National Assembly and Presidential Elections.

He expressed the hope that their willingness to continue to participate in the monitoring and observation of the remaining elections would lend credence to the outcome of the electoral process, according to a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Chika Izuora.

The presidential aide also commended the active participation of Nigerian voters during the previous elections, pointing that their comportment and determination to be part of the process actually helped in overall peaceful conduct of the elections.

He said he would still count on the people to come out en-masse Tuesday to vote, but urged them to look properly before taking a leap.

Ume-Ezeoke explained that it has become imperative to adopt a holistic approach to the change, which they demonstrated during the Presidential poll, during which majority of Nigerians substantially cast their votes for President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said he expected similar gesture that will usher in a more robust administration that will smoothen a consensus developmental arrangement as envisaged by the President.

“You should vote for candidates that will be transparent in the management of your resources, candidates that are prudent, resourceful and transformative, and capable of delivering in line with your expectations”, he stated.

Ume-Ezeoke threw the challenge to the Civil Societies to ensure they engage the people in voter education and discourage them from falling prey to money bag politicians.

He also used the occasion to condemn the violence that erupted shortly after declaration of the Presidential election result, and urged those behind the crises to be patriotic and support on-going efforts to rebuild Nigeria.
