One of the major CDMA operators in the country, Visafone Nigeria, has said it is well positioned to grow its current subscriber base from five million to 10 million by 2014.

Speaking at the third anniversary of the telecoms company in Lagos on Saturday, the founder and Chairman, Visafone Nigeria, Mr. Jim Ovia, attributed the company’s growth in the past three years to hard work, commitment of the work force and the competition in the telecoms sector.

He said, “We are in the quest to improve our present performance in terms of efficient service delivery and customers’ satisfaction. “Presently, we are in excess of 5.5 million in terms of subscriber base. However, we hope that in the next three years, we shall have surpassed the 10 million subscriber base in Nigeria.”

Ovia also said fair regulatory regime, which the sector had witnessed since the GSM revolution in the country, had also been instrumental to the company’s growth, adding that more of such would help channel further investments into the sector.

“We believe that with proper regulatory environment, improved performance and with our teeming partners and subscribers, we can achieve this. Even at over 5.5 million subscriber base now, we are larger than some countries across the globe and we are doing all things possible to satisfy our customers,” he said. Speaking in the same vein, the Managing Director, Visafone, Mr. Ramachandran Balachandran, said despite the challenges facing the CDMA operators in the country, it had been three years of achievement for the company.
