Fed Govt awards N12.1b contract for new Kano International terminal

The Federal Government has awarded a contract for the construction of an ultramodern International Terminal Building to cost N12 billion at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

The Aviation Minister, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze, who disclosed this to journalists after her inspection visit of facilities at Kano Airport, said the project will commence in the next two months and is expected to be completed within two years.

According to her, the dilapidated state of the Kano Airport has been a source of concern to the Federal Government, adding that, that was why the present administration, led by President Good luck Jonathan took up the challenge of providing a modern Airport with adequate equipment to attract foreign airliners.

Mrs Njeze disclosed that the contract was the first of its kind for a brand new terminal building, pointing out that government has earmarked enough funds to ensure speedy completion of the project, as the present government does not believe in starting a project and abandoning it midway.

“I can assure you that after the completion of the project, it will help to open up the airport again and more international flights will fly into Kano because we now have a new terminal building, new facilities, new airport city, new equipment and everything that is obtainable internationally can fovourably compete with other countries of the world.
