‘Land reforms targeted at title acquisitions’

THE Lagos State Government new excision reforms on towns, villages, settlements and communities are to bring orderliness to the titling of excised lands in the state,Chairman of the Technical Committee on Excision/Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on Land Matters Mr Aina Salami has said.

He also said in addition the project is to ensure that in excision applications, the development plan of Lagos Mega City would be sustained.

Salami, however, warned land speculators and applicants for excision not to pre-empt the outcome of any excision application, which the members of the committee is considering as approvals of pending excision applications rest on the governor.

While noting that publication of details of approvals would be made in some national dailies after the conclusion of the processing of applications, Salami further added that the state government would issue Certificates of Occupancy to successful applicants.

He further disclosed that 316 towns, villages, settlements and communities out of 503 communities, had been inspected by the members of the committee.

According to him, applications from the settlements on the Ibeju-Lekki axis constitute 60 per cent of the applications while the remaining applications were from Epe, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Ogudu, Badagry and Ojo axis of the state.

He assured applicants that the remaining communities yet to be inspected by the committee would be completed soonest.

He also said recommendations of the Committee are being worked on for further processing and approval.
